What vehicles did your friends parents drive?

One of my friends mother owned a brown Triumph 2.5Pi estate car during the early 80s. I can remember having a few lifts in that car.

Another friends mother owned a blue Datsun 120Y, once had a ride in that car to go and see a 'care bears' movie. I can't for the life of me remember the fathers car.

Another friends father drove around in a 70s Land Rover, also in the mid 80s, looked in good order too.

Another family owned a Talbot Horizon followed by a Peugeot 309.

One of my friends father had a Triumph Acclaim, followed by a Montego 1600 and then replaced by an Rover 216, early shape. All were in really nice condition.

Another friends father drove a metallic blue mark two Granada 2.8i Ghia X complete with grey leather trim and full electric pack. Lovely car that was, replaced with a brand new Mini Cooper in around 1990.

Another friends mother was something of a BL fan, owning a silver Maxi and two allegros, her eldest son also owned a rather rough Dolomite 1300.

Another friends father owned a Vauxhall Nova hatchback, had that for a few years.

When growing up My best friends dad always had Mini's, until he got fed up of them being stolen.

We used to have great fun playing in the finger print dust the police left all over the glass when a car was returned.

He replaced the last one with a Saab 99 and that was that.

He had the only Saab for miles and it looked ace and wierd compared to the normal cars about.

Thinking back, I remember one who had a V4 Ford Corsair, then a Capri, a Morris 1800 (Wedge but not called Princess), another Capri and then an MGB GT (After a family car was no longer needed). I remember another with a smallish Datsun and another, who didn't have a car, until he had a VW Type 3. Next door they had an Austin A40, then a Viva HB, a VW Passat and then a Renault 14.

In the neighbourhood, we had (In the houses where there were youngster) a Morris Oxford, followed by a Marina and then a Maxi; there was a Capri and next to them, the people had an Alfa Romeo and a couple of Simcas (They sold out to people with much younger children and they had things like SD1s, Stags, Land Rovers and for the wife, a 1275GT); the people next to them were into Fords, as were the people two doors down from them (I know they were firms cars). On our side, one lot had Citreon DS cars but that place changed hands a few times and then the only other place with chidlren was next door (Who I have mentioned). The other side of us, the "Children" were older but I recall them having a new Renault 16 and then (I think after redundancy) they were into 1100/1300s and I know they had a rather nice Vanden Plas. Opposite were the grandparents to the one lot of next door neighbours and they had a Humber Pullman and then a Peugoet 504 (I had never seen a Peugoet before that one). That one was automatic and I seem to remember that the owner later had a problem with one foot, so it was just as well.

I suppose some of it depends on whether you class people as friends of aquaintences. Others, that spring to mind, are an old Vauxhall Victor, followed by a Riley Elf (Mini), there were a few Granadas; I remember someone had a Scimitar. One thing I remember, was that in ignorance, "Their" cars were always the best and I'm not so sure that people grow out of it (Some of them were born bull of S^*t and they'll die full of it). It's a kind of inferiority complex, than manifests itself in a kind of bravado (I don't know if it's just a south Wales thing or not?). When my father had an MGB GT V8, back in those days, everything was faster than it :roll: :!: I remember once, when my father had his Lotus Elan Sprint, someone tried to say a TR7 was faster. I just laughed (Having heard it all before :roll: )but a friend of mine, who was also into cars and whose cousin or uncle had owned an Elan, jumped in and told them not to be so stupid :lol: :lol: :!:
Rules exist for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men.

MG Midget 1500, MGB GT V8, Morris Minor Traveller 1275, MG Midget 1275 & too many bicycles.

I remember my mate's dad was a builder and had a Triumph 2000 estate, he lost the door keys so would leave the boot unlocked and use a length of aluminium angle to knock the drivers door button up and down from the boot from there. First case of remote central locking? He had a Cherokee Chief after that, pretty rare in the early 80's. Growing up in Luton nearly everyone else had a parent at Vauxhall and most drove new ones with their employee's discount.

The only one that relly sticks in my mind was a Gold Mk3 Zody Executive. I'd like that now, must have been nearly new at the time.
Currently over 35 years worth of fixing 35 boxes.
Hoping to reach 65 years worth of fixing 65 boxes.

Actually you asking that question has made me think, in my closest circle of friends I knocked around with on leaving school two never had cars because their dads did not drive, one never had a dad, ones dad had a three wheeler van because – yes – he only had a bike license and the last one was quite bizarre his dad had a new Hillman every year – hunters, Avengers etc yet their house was small and really scruffy – threadbare carpets , peeling paint, post war type kitchen.....funny where some folks priorities lay

Here's some I can remember;

Austin Ambassador
Skoda Rapid 136 Coupe
Ford Escort Mk2
Vauxhall Senator
Mini Clubman
Mk1 & Mk2 Fiesta
Peugeot 504
Granada Scorpio

And my best mate who's dad had a company car (not necessarily in the right order);

Mk4 Cortina
Mitsubishi Colt
BMW 320

And just after we all learnt to drive he got a cavalier 2 litre. Jammy git could drive it on his dads insurance which he used to enjoy!

My mate lived over the road and his dad had a brand new Reliant Scimitar followed by an XR3 and then a Manta GTE. All great cars, bought new and red; whilst we made do with a Landcrab and then a Chrysler Alpine!
