it's ALWAYS a commitee that say " No "you have to join "

As above.. 100% this is what they can't understand.. your club will develop. Like I said before I have seen it happen so many times in the last 10 years.. even in Germany Porsche officaly dropped it's support to one of the national clubs in favour of a more active FREE Forum for owners.. who where more hands on.

It's happened and it could and poss will happen again.. Main Clubs act too slowly and DO NOT understand the internet.

I can say this with out fear of being wrong

If the National Allegro club offered free FORUM membership with restrictive MEMEMBERS ONLY sections I can safely say membership would grow.

reason?

you would be able to see and guage the type of club is it, the advice you get and can offer back. A more active younger core of members being more hands on with the cars, even people making new parts to help others. It's a total no brainer NOT to do this.. But the committee I can 100% say will reject it as they push their chests out to make a name for themselves.. Too many clubs have this attitude of we know best and it just ends up the same from one club sorns 2-3 clubs and all it does is fagment the following, idea's commitment and shear numbers..

Right well I might as well update you on progress

I tinkered away this weekend

I need a new Rad but found one on ebay for decent money considering they are getting harder to find.

I also have started to strip the front of the car to do the valance.. it's got a few holes in it.. and also I can see now why it would rust there.. So I am going to mod it abit to alow the water to escape and the air to flow in there to dry it out if it was to get damp in there..

I am going to stone chip the front.. Not 100% orginal I know but it's going to protect it for the future and I am also going to paint it the body colour and clear lacqer it, so at least it's looking more like orginal but also updating it's protection..

I managed to look under the car on the ramp and blow me down it's almost perfect under there.. this is really truely a great car that has survived the years of salt and abuse..

The rest of the paint is coming up nice I will start to tackle the wheel arches ( the edges ) so I can hide the painting edges with some ease.

Other than that.. it's a jolly big service.. I polished up the SU pot and the rocker cover on my buffer what a difference that makes.. only on looks..

it did break down the other day in the car park of a fast food chain how very helpful of it.. points had closed and as I had no tools I had to call the RAC but with in 10 mins we were off complete with lunch and a disney theamed toy for my 3 year old, he is so happy !!

So I have ordered, all new points cap arm capasitor the lot.. plus to collect in the week.. new oil and filter, Air to buy still.. I hope this will clear the mis fire I get... I also stripped out the fuel bowl and found only a small amount of dirt in the bottom but I thought it's best out so I cleaned and then hoovered out the bowl to make sure it's totaly clear in there.. but my missfire seams to come from one plug there is no smoke out the back so I hope there is not a futher issue I am sure it's electrical poss the lead..

I really am enjoying tinkering but I do have other cars I should be working on but I am not sure what to do with this car long term..

Ok it's nice to be used but really it's best in some Museium ( sp ) than out on the road... it's 1970's British History.

I am just waiting for some time to get on the arches and the weather to warm up abit.. for the paint to dry.

Seriously? Not using the car is the worst thing for it! Unless you have a really draughty garage or an air-conditioned one, then condensation will eat it. Lack of use also promotes seizure of brake system rubber components, corrosion to terminals in the electrics and reliability will suffer.
Soak it in Ensis V or Waxoyl if you live too far from a ship's chandlers and don't mind that it's not as good as Ensis, drive it, enjoy it and keep on top of it but lack of use is a killer. 8-)

thanks John.. I have 11 cars ( 9 if you ask my wife with the census  ) so long term storage is always an battle.. I have a workshop that is not perfect but designed with air flow in mind. Works well. I have a 10 year resto project out there baremetal floor and it's not got any rust on it.. must finsih welding that soon..

But really this is not my normal type of car.. I really wouldn't have bought it if it was a saloon and that my Dad was part of it at Lucas all those years ago.. plus I sat as a blonde cirly haired boy in the back of it with red sandles and shorts in the 70's

really I don't want the car. Hence I may just sell it after I have enjoyed doing the work to it.. to bring it back to life or just give it to Beaulie for display.

They would likely charge you for the priviledge!

There are still plenty of carefull owners ou there looking for a Gem of a Allegro, so I doubt you will be waiting for long to sell it providing its priced right.

Ha Ha I have never been charged for lending a car the Musium.

It relies on donations of cars and the public lending cars to them at different times of the year.. Even investors have bought cars and left them there from new Take the Jag 220 that was bought new and placed in their care, it's an investment buyer who has lent it to them. We know them well there we are quite involved with them. Infact I was only there the other week for lunch. The Event programme this year is fuller than ever with some more new shows being added in and the field at the back for smaller shows is being used more and more.

Once those arche edges have been repainted she will come up like new again.. it's the only thing left on it to make it perfect she is the type of car you would leave there.
